So, lately I’ve been seeing a lot of fanart for Steven universe, but it wasn’t until I saw Summer Garnet by grimphantom (see here: grimphantom.deviantart.com/art… ) based on this gif from the show (grimphantom.tumblr.com/post/87… ) that I was like, ‘Dang it! I need to see this show. Let’s see what all the fuss is about.’ :)

Steven Universe is about a child named (appropriately), Steven Universe. Apparently, his mother was a super-awesome magical being that fell in love with a human man (Steven’s dad). Thus, Steven is half-magic and is still learning to use his powers. With his mother gone (I think she died, the show doesn’t say), he is protected and helped by three lovely ladies known as the ‘Crystal Gems’: Garnet, Amethyst and Pearl. Adventures and hilarity ensue.

Steven Universe is a cute show. It took a while to grow on me, but I really like it now and I’m looking forward to seeing what they do next. To be honest, the show didn’t seem to hit its stride until about episode ten. The first ten episodes really made Steven annoying and a bit too stupid/silly. Yes, he would save the day, but more often than not he was the cause of the problems to begin with. As the show went on, that aspect disappeared and it turned into a really cute, fun show.

My favorite episode (of the nineteen I’ve seen so far) is episode seventeen, ‘Lion 2 – The Movie’. In it, Steven and his friend Connie try to go to the movies together, but end up going on a grand adventure instead. It involves running on water, teleportation and a pink lion. (Ha! Gotta love cartoons. :D ) The humor, the action – all top notch. Fantastic episode. Another one of my faves is episode twelve, ‘Giant Woman’. I won’t spoil anything here, but I was singing ‘All I want to do, is see you turn into, a giant woman’ for like three days. LOL! Love it! Bring on more episodes like this! :D

Also, I found out that the gif that was made of Garnet transforming into her swimsuit, which is what pushed me to check the show out to begin with, was a fan-made thing! Her swimsuit in the show actually looked like this:

D-oh! >_< You would think I would know by now to be wary of fan art I see on DA (A lot of it is over-sexualized). If shows were really like their fan art, modern cartoons would be straight-up x-rated. LOL!

If you haven’t checked it out, I’d recommend it. Very cute show. :) Just push past the first ten episodes and it starts to get really good.

Have you seen Steven Universe? What do you think of it? Comment below, let me know!

Much love, y’all. Talk to you soon. :D

lol, I'll admit when I first saw an episode of this I was pretty 'meh' towards it.  Wasn't my thing, but then that's how I felt about Chowder before I watched more of it and suddenly the show grew on me and, sure, SU isn't as good as Chowder in my books, but at the same time it has a similar lighthearted nature to it that is easy watching and is something we need much more of.

Long story short, I'm tired of depressing stuff.  The world honestly needs to be reminded that laughter is the best medicine for empty hearts, and this is a show that can help with that. =)
