Game Character - Test 01

Description

Hey, all. Hope you've been well! :D

I've been playing around with what the main character of my game should look like. I think a simple, clean design will work well. I'm pushing myself, but also trying to be realistic in the amount of work I can handle. >_<

I think a black cat with a red vest would be cool. There a danger in showing stuff too early, but I think it's okay here. It's all development anyway.  ( Initiate Legal Speak --> 'Sprite shown here may not represent the final character in the game.' LOL)

The main challenge is making a character that's only 16 pixels high interesting. So, Faxdoc and I have been working on a design that I think works well. I changed the vest to more of a cloak -- and I think the movement of the cloak could work well to accentuate movement.

The character had a tail initially, but after trying to animate it for an evening, I was like -- "This is a TON of work that not necessary". So, I decided against it.

Looking for feedback here. Do you like it?  Do you not like it? Any help in making the character look better would very much be apprecaited.

Much love, y'all! Talk to you soon. :D

I like it a lot!  My one comment - if you're going for a cat, maybe keep the ears up when standing, and pull 'em down when the character is moving.  that way you know its a cat, and the movement forward is bringing the ears down you know?  I have no idea about the work to put this in, but i thought it would be a nice touch and make the cat image clearer

Actually, comment #2 - one thing that might help with the movement is if you have the sprite have a kind of "determined squint" as it is moving forward (i don't know if there is a better word that i'm not thinking of).  you know how if your moving forward real fast, like on a motorbike, all that wind in your face causes your eyes to squint a little?  that's what i'm thinking of.
